Diana Lucia is a neuroscientist and PhD candidate at the University of Queensland. Her research is multidisciplinary - focusing in developmental neuroscience and in neurodegenerative disease, with a particular focus in Motor Neurone Disease.
Diana's PhD research aims to understand the impact of maternal alcohol consumption around conception on the developing brain and later life cognition in offspring. Her work in Motor Neurone Disease aims to understand the widespread changes in the brain that contribute to faster disease progression.
Along with research, she is a science communicator on the radio, in print and through science talks. She is a regular podcast contributor on the ABC science radio program "Ockham's Razor", a freelance science writer - with her articles appearing in Australia's Skeptics Magazine, The Conversation and Lateral Magazine.
She was a semi finalist in the National science communication competition "Fame Lab" and has given a range of talks as part of National Science Week, World Science Festival and other science events.

Diana is the founder of "Lucia Communications" a science communications and consultancy firm specialising in science engagement throughout schools developing workshops, demonstrations and STEM learning for students.
Along with STEM engagement, Diana specialises in presentations on a range of topics across science tailored to a technical audience and the general public.
Her passion as a science communicator stretches across several areas: neuroscience, promoting scientific inquiry and STEM education, advocating for women in science and examining the important issues of science in society.

Diana's science communication work also extends to volunteer community STEM outreach programs and events. She has been awarded the "Young Science Ambassador" Award from The Wonder of Science program for the past four years - giving her the opportunity to work with students across regional and rural Queensland.
Diana also represented the National science Week "Catch a Rising Star: women in Queensland science" roadshow aimed at building relationships between women scientists and regional communities in Queensland.
She has also volunteered her time for the CSIRO STEM professionals in schools program.
